Distribution of the Antibiotic Producing Streptomyces Isolated from Soil in Daejeon Area.

Abstract
|
|
|
The following results were obtained through the survey of distribution of antibi-otic producing Streptomyces from soil in Daejeon area during the period from August 1974 to December 1975.
1. 1091 strains of Streptomyces were isolated from 1580 soil samples and in these isolated Streptomyces, 725 (66.5%) strains showed antibiotic activity.
2. Among the 725 active strains, 433 (59.7%) strains of Streptomyces produced the antibiotic substance against B. subtilis, 524 (72. 3%) strains against Staphylococcus, 331 (45.7%) strains against E. coli, 354 (48.8%) strains against S. typhi, 445 (61. 4%) strains against Sh. dysenteriae, and 51 (7.0%) strains against P. aeruginosa, respectively.
3. Strong active Streptomyces (more than 10 mm of inhibitory zone) against Gram positive tested organisms were highly isolated from vegetable field, while Gram nega-tive tested organisms were isolated from around dwelling, streamside, moutmains, ve-getable field, but against P. aeruginosa were isolated from school ground and around dwelling, respectively.
4. 43 (5.6%) strains of Streptomyces showed the antibiotic activity to the all tes-ted organisms.
